"Smart119" was selected for "Local Innovation Challenge HOKKAIDO", a governmental open innovation project

Smart119 Inc. announces that its emergency medical service "Smart119" (Patent No. 6875734) has been selected for the "Local Innovation Challenge HOKKAIDO", a governmental open innovation project organized by the Sapporo Collaborative Core City Region (collaboration of 12 municipalities). In this project, we will conduct a demonstration experiment in Sapporo City with the aim of solving one of the regional and administrative issues, "having difficulties in transporting emergency patients quickly to hospitals for treatment, when they get rejected by multiple hospitals". We will analyze the data obtained and develop and operate Smart119 optimized for Sapporo City.

The "Local Innovation Challenge HOKKAIDO" is one of the largest open innovation projects in Japan by 12 municipalities (*) within the Sapporo Core City area, aiming to solve regional and administrative issues. In fiscal year 2021, the call was for applications in the field affected by the spread of the new coronavirus, and the emergency medical information service "Smart119" was adopted in the category of "prevention of fire and accidents leading to emergency calls.

This service, which was adopted this time, was developed from the perspective of emergency and medical care as a solution to the social issue of the difficulty in getting emergency patients quickly to hospitals (ambulances being rejected by multiple hospitals). The system has been in operation at the Chiba City Fire Department since July 2020, and in the "TRY! YAMANASHI! Demonstration Experiment Support Project" sponsored by Yamanashi Prefecture, which was adopted in September 2021, a demonstration experiment was conducted from December of the same year. The results showed a reduction in the time required to negotiate with hospitals and to make a decision to accept a patient at a medical institution, and the project was recognized as making a contribution to improving the life-saving rate.

In this demonstration experiment, we will investigate the regional characteristics of Sapporo City (number of emergencies, transport time, number of medical institutions, etc.), optimize the system, and verify its operation. Outcome indicators will include time measurements and questionnaires to the fire department and medical institutions. Ultimately, we will work toward the introduction of this system in Sapporo City. We aim to support acute medical care and contribute to the "creation of a city where citizens feel safe.
